I have chosen “This is war”, a song by the American rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars, written by lead vocalist Jared Leto.The music video was filmed on April 7th, 2010 but the video premiere took place three months later. However, it was not published until April 6th, 2011.
Jared Leto wrote this song because he felt as if the whole world was falling apart and massive changes were happening. He wanted to represent the situation of the time. The inevitability of conflict, the blessing of conflict and what we can all learn from it. He wanted to explore another side of it, so he decided to portray soldiers in conflict. The meaning of the song is like a story about US soldiers at war. He’s giving advice about the good and the evil in war, explaining the situation and things that happen...
To sum up, I have chosen this song because the first part of the video shows the band of soldiers patrolling the desert while showing scenes of war and leaders. Near the end of the video, various military vehicles are flying uncontrollably above the men, towards a pile, that means the war has finished and all is destroyed. Those special effects and the rhythm of the music give me a sensation of living in a war, that's why it caught my attention.
